Wooden learning · Ages 3+

A two-minute job every morning that teaches the whole calendar.

Slide the marker to today's date. Move the day of the week, the month, the season. Point the weather dial at the window and set the clock hands to the time. By the end of the week your child is doing it before you ask, and the words for days, months and seasons have arrived without a single worksheet.

Everything on the board

Date

1 to 31 across the top, with a slider to mark today.

Day of the week

Monday through Sunday down the right, with its own marker.

Month

All twelve months down the left side.

Clock

A large clock face in the middle with hands they turn by hand.

Seasons

A spinner for winter, spring, summer and autumn.

Weather

A picture dial — sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, snow.

Time of day

Morning, afternoon and evening panels along the bottom.

Stand

Fold-out legs, so it sits on a desk or shelf.

Why it teaches better than a chart

It repeats every single day

A poster on the wall gets ignored. This has to be changed each morning, and that daily repetition is what makes days and months stick.

Time on a real clock face

Hands they move themselves, in a generation that mostly sees digital numbers. Turning them is how the half-past and quarter-to make sense.

Language comes with it

Yesterday, tomorrow, next month, cloudy, autumn. Setting the board gives you the reason to use those words out loud.

Something to be in charge of

Children take it seriously because it is their job. That small responsibility is half the reason they keep doing it.

Questions about this board

Is it too advanced for a three-year-old?

Start with weather and the season — both are pictures, so they can do those alone. Date, day and the clock come later, and the board grows with them for years.

Does it need batteries or setting up?

Neither. Every part slides or turns by hand, and the legs fold out so it stands on its own.

Does the clock keep time?

No, and that is the point. The hands are for your child to move, which is how they learn to read a clock face rather than just look at one.

Will it work in a classroom?

It is a good morning-circle board — big enough for a group to see, and one child can be given the job of setting it each day.

Put it where they eat breakfast. Setting it becomes part of the morning within a week.

Safety: contains small moving parts. Not suitable for children under 3 years. Keep play supervised and stop using the board if any piece works loose.
