Are these compatible with bigger magnetic tiles?
These are the 3.75 cm mini format, so they connect to each other rather than to full-size tiles. Treat this as a standalone travel set.
Is 62 pieces enough to build something proper?

Do the animals attach to the tiles?
They are standees — they stand up inside and beside the build rather than clipping on. That is what lets them be moved around the scene freely.
Ask them to build somewhere the giraffe can eat from the top of the tower.
