Skipping. The arms rotate at a steady pace and the child jumps over them each time round. Real cardio, and it counts the rhythm for them.

Can it be used indoors?
The skipping and ring toss modes work fine in a cleared space — the arms sweep a full circle, so move the coffee table first. Save the rocket for outside.
What surface is best?
A flat hard floor or a patio. Thick carpet and long grass get in the way of the arms, so a tiled floor or paving works best.
Can a three-year-old actually skip it?
At three they mostly step over the arms rather than jump, which is exactly the right place to start. Proper skipping comes at four or five.
Does it need batteries?
Yes, for the unit and the remote. Check the pack before a birthday and keep a spare set in the drawer.
Start it on the slowest speed and count out loud. They will be beating their own record by the end of the week.
Safety: for children over 3 years with adult supervision. Keep bystanders clear of the rotating arms and never aim the rocket launcher at anyone's face. Use on a flat, clear surface with nothing breakable in reach, and have an adult fit the batteries.
