Wooden Shape Sorting Stacker
Montessori · Wooden toy · Ages 2+
Shapes, colours and counting, all on one board.
Five shapes, five colours, five sets of pegs. The circle has one hole and goes on one peg. The rectangle has two, the triangle three, the square four and the pentagon five. So when your child finds where a piece goes, they are matching a shape, a colour and a number at the same time, without anyone having to teach it.
Three ways to play as they grow
Stack. The youngest just slide pieces on and pull them off. The pegs only accept the right shape, so the board shows them when something fits.
Sort. Group the pieces by colour or by shape, and say the names out loud as they go.
Count. Count the holes, count the pegs, and see that they match. Then count the pieces in each stack.
Why it lasts longer than most toddler toys
The board checks the answer
A piece only goes on the right pegs. Your child finds and fixes their own mistakes without being corrected, which is the idea behind Montessori materials.
Numbers they can feel
Five holes on the pentagon, five pegs to fit it. Counting becomes something they hold and push into place, not a word they repeat.
Careful hands
Lining up one hole is easy. Lining up five holes on five pegs takes real control. It is good practice for the hand skills they will later use to hold a pencil.
Wood that survives toddlers
Solid wood with smooth edges, chunky enough for small hands. It handles being dropped and thrown, and there is nothing to charge or break.
In the box

Questions about this toy
Is it too hard for a two-year-old?
Start with the circle and the rectangle, which have only one or two holes. Add the others as their hands get steadier. Most children work up to the pentagon on their own.
Can the pieces be stacked in any order?
Each shape only fits its own pegs, but the four pieces of the same shape can go on in any order. That is enough freedom to keep it a game, not a test.
How do I clean it?
Wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry. Do not soak it, because water can swell the wood.
First they stack it. Then they sort it. One day you hear them counting the holes.
Safety: contains small parts. Not suitable for children under 3 years without adult supervision. Check pieces and pegs now and then, and stop using the toy if any part cracks or comes loose.
