Science kit · Magnets · Ages 6+

Make a magnet float. Then find out why it works.

Build a compass that points north, make one magnet hover above another, then put together a lifter that picks things up without touching them. This kit turns magnetism into twelve hands-on builds, so your child watches push, pull, poles and magnetic fields work instead of just reading about them. Every build comes apart again, ready for the next one.

Three of the twelve

Magnetic direction finder

Build a simple compass and watch it swing to point the same way every time. It is how sailors found their way for centuries.

Floating magnet challenge

Line up two magnets so they push apart, and the top one hovers in mid-air. Flip it over and it snaps down again.

Magnetic lifter

Put together a lifter that picks up metal objects and drops them on command, like a small version of a scrapyard crane.

How it works

1

Pick a card. Each activity card shows one experiment and the parts it needs.

2

Build it. Join the rods, connectors and magnets to put the model together.

3

Test it, then take it apart. Watch what the magnets do and talk about why. Then take it apart for the next experiment.

Why it teaches better than a textbook

They can see the force

Magnetism is invisible, which makes it hard to explain. A magnet hovering in mid-air or a needle swinging north shows it working, and a child who has seen it happen understands it.

Trial and error is the method

When a build does not work, they flip a magnet and try again. That is how scientists actually work, and it is how the idea of north and south poles sticks.

It backs up school science

Magnets and forces are a standard part of primary science. A child who has already built a compass at home finds that lesson much easier to follow.

Better with two

One reads the card, the other builds, then they swap. It works for brothers and sisters, a parent and child, or a small group in a classroom or science club.

Questions about this kit

Will a six-year-old manage it alone?

The cards and instructions are written for young learners. Younger children usually enjoy the first few builds with an adult beside them, and older ones can follow the cards on their own.

Can the parts be used again?

Yes. Every experiment comes apart, and the same parts go into the next one. Children can repeat the builds or come up with their own.

Is it suitable for a classroom?

Yes. It works well for small groups, with one child reading the card and another building, which is why schools and science clubs use kits like this.

Start with the floating magnet. It is the one they will want to show everyone.

Safety: contains magnets and small parts. Not suitable for children under 3 years. If a magnet is swallowed, get medical help straight away. Keep magnets away from younger children, bank cards and electronics.
