6-in-1 Montessori Number Board
Montessori · Wooden · Ages 3+
They come for the fishing and stay for the counting.
Every child goes for the magnetic rod first — catching the little wooden fish is the easy win. What keeps them at the table is everything else on the board: shapes to post, columns to stack, numbers to press into their slots, discs to count out and beads to slide. Six activities in one piece of wood, 46 cm across, and no batteries anywhere.
Six things on one board
Magnetic fishing. Lift the wooden fish out of their holes with the rod. Fiddly, absorbing, and the one they start with every time.
Stacking columns. Four pegged bases and a pile of shaped blocks. Which shape goes on which peg, and how many will fit.
Shape posting. Star, heart, triangle, square, circle and more, each with its own cut-out. Self-correcting — only the right one drops in.
Numbers and sums. Chunky numerals 0 to 10 with plus, minus and equals pieces, so simple sums get built by hand rather than written down.
Counting discs. Coloured wooden discs to lay out in rows — count them, sort them by colour, or match a row to a number.
Bead sliding. Beads on fixed wires along one edge — counting practice that cannot be lost under the sofa.
Why it lasts longer than six separate toys
There is always something else on it
A single-activity toy gets mastered and abandoned. When one game stops holding them, the next is six inches away and the board stays on the table.
It grows from three to six
Fishing and shape posting at three, counting at four, and building sums with the symbols at five or six. The same board, three different children.
The board checks the answer
A shape only fits its own hole, and a number only sits in its own slot. Children correct themselves instead of waiting to be told, which is the whole point of Montessori materials.
Properly made and properly tested
Solid wood with smooth edges, 1.45 kg of it, carrying EN71, ASTM, CE and CPSC certification. Not a thin printed board that splinters in a month.

Questions about this board
Is it too advanced for a three-year-old?
No — start with the fishing and the shape holes, which work straight away. The numbers and sums are there for when they are ready, which is the reason the board is still in use two years later.
How big is it really?
46 cm across and 30 cm deep, so it fills a good part of a dining table and weighs about a kilo and a half. Substantial rather than pocket-sized.
Are the pieces safe?
The board is certified to EN71, ASTM, CE and CPSC. The pieces are small, though, so this is a table activity with an adult present rather than something to leave out near a baby.
What if a piece goes missing?
Most of the activities still work with a piece short, and the beads are fixed to the board. Count the pieces back into the box at the end and it stays complete.
Leave it out on the table. It gets picked up far more often than a toy that lives in a box.
Safety: contains small parts and a magnetic fishing rod — choking hazard. Not suitable for children under 3 years. Adult supervision required at all times, and pieces should be collected and stored away after play.
