Concept — Repos Production
Party game · Repos Production · Ages 10+
Say nothing. Point at pictures. Watch the whole table work it out.
The board is covered in about a hundred simple icons: animal, yellow, small, flying. Two players pick a secret word and place markers on the icons that describe it, and everyone else shouts guesses. Put the main marker on "animal" and cubes on yellow, black, small and flying, and someone will say "bee". There is no drawing and no acting, and nobody needs to be good at either.
How to play
Pick a word. Two players sitting next to each other draw a card and choose one of its nine concepts, from easy to hard.
Clue it on the board. The green question-mark pawn marks the main idea, and cubes add detail. For longer answers, coloured exclamation-mark pawns give extra clues without mixing everything up.
Everyone else guesses. The clue-givers may only say "yes". Whoever gets it first takes 2 points, and the clue-giving pair score too.
Why families keep coming back to it
You do not have to be good at anything
Pictionary needs drawing and charades needs acting. This only needs pointing, so the relative who never joins in finds they can.
Clues are pictures, not English
The cards are in English, but the clues are icons for colours, shapes, places and feelings. Grandparents, cousins and visitors can play together even if their English differs.
You find out how people think
Someone clues "tea" with icons nobody expected, and it works. Half the fun is seeing the odd routes people take to the same answer.
It suits everyone at once
Every card has an easy, medium and hard level, so a ten-year-old and an adult can take turns from the same card.

Questions about this game
What if we do not know the word on the card?
Pick another one. Each card has nine options, and some name Western films and celebrities. Many families let clue-givers choose their own word, which the rules allow.
Is it hard to learn?
The rules take a few minutes. Learning the icons takes a round or two, so start with the easy concepts and the player aids.
Do we have to keep score?
No. There are point tokens if you want a winner, but plenty of groups skip scoring and just play.
Is there a timer?
No. Each round lasts until someone guesses the word or the clue-givers give up, so nobody is rushed.
Start on the easy concepts. By the third round someone will be trying to clue a film with three cubes and a building.
Safety: contains small parts, including cubes and pawns. Choking hazard, not suitable for children under 3 years. Keep the pieces away from younger siblings during and after play.
